It’s no secret that we love our Asheville weddings and why not!? We are surrounded by some of the most amazing landscapes in the US that we are blessed enough to call home! But! We would be lying if we said we didn’t love the adventure of wedding photography. Every couple of weddings, Jenny and I get to travel out of the area and sometimes of the state to capture wedding days for some of the awesome couples we work with. Jessie & Robert were one of them! Jessie & Robert were from Connecticut and initially contacted us in January as they were in the planning stages of their upcoming elopement to the mountains of Gatlinburg Tennessee! You could tell from our conversations with them that they were a ridiculously sweet couple and we could not wait to meet them in person to document their wedding day! Luckily, we were fortunate enough to have an opportunity to meet them in an impromptu trip down from Connecticut to Tennessee. We had dinner with them that night and discussed all the fun details that would comprise their special day and the feeling they wanted to capture. After meeting them that night, we knew this would be a special day and were so excited about their wedding as it would be during the middle of October which means one thing in this region. AWESOME fall colors!
The plan was to start off at their venue Angel View Wedding Chapel, and get the wedding party getting ready leading up to the ceremony. Angel view was a quaint little venue complete with beautiful mountain backdrops, but a intimate traditional feel. The chapel only appeared to be big enough to fit around 50-60 people which is just about how many of their closest friends and family made the trip across the country for Jessie & Robert’s big day!
Shortly after the ceremony, it was on to the formal photos. Jenny directed most of the action while I floated around and captured candid photos of people hanging out during this time. One of the images and people that stuck out in my mind when I think back about their day was Robert’s grandfather. Robert told me with a smile on his face that his grandfather jokingly said “I’m only hanging around to see you get married!” Boy are we glad he did because you could see the joy on Robert’s face when around his grandfather and I think it’s safe to say he enjoyed the day thoroughly!
After the formal photos, it was off to the fun stuff! The plan was for us all to hop in our cars and make the short trip from the chapel to the Smoky Mountain National Park and capture epic mountain views and get the fall colors. We were in luck as the colors had just kicked in at these elevations and the different shades of yellow helped bring even more warmth to the love between Robert and Jessie. We were lucky as the traffic this time of year can be horrendous but I think God was on our side as the usual gridlock through downtown Gatlinburg to get to our destination was not as bad as we previously anticipated. We ended up with more time to spend with Jessie and Robert and the timing could not have been more perfect! We finished the day at Newfound Gap on the Tennessee, North Carolina state line. The views were breathtaking. The couple was equally easy on the eyes and effortlessly moved from pose to pose as if they had rehearsed them days in advance. When it was all said and done Robert & Jessie thanked us for being able to make the trip from NC and for also being willing to travel around to the beautiful locations they wanted to use to highlight their wedding day. Of course it was our pleasure but we all embraced each other in big hugs and literally couldn’t wait to get home and start right away on the finishing touches for their photos! Couples like Robert & Jessie on beautiful days like this are one of the reasons why we fall more in love with what we do every day!
